Syrian Kurdish women´s experiences: Images in Exile
In this workshop, Wendelmoet Hamelink will present the first finds of her Marie Curie research project IMEX, which investigates images, experiences and memories of Syrian Kurdish women in exile. The finds will be presented in dialogue with Nerina Weiss and Iffit Qureshi.
Hamelink’s presentation will be more of a work in progress, and the dialogue will focus on how women have narrated their personal histories; from their experiences in war times and their escape to Scandinavia, to the lives they build up there. She will also discuss how women talk about representations of Kurdish women and about photography. Ideas will be explored for further development of a connected photography project in collaboration with Iffit Qureshi.
