Gender in time and space (completed)

An anthropological study of social inclusion and exclusion in the everyday life of students in elementary school

About the project

The aim of the project is to develop an understanding of what kind of demands related to social and educational competence students meet in their everyday life in the Norwegian elementary school. Gender, ethnicity, and social class will be used as central analytical tools to study how these demands influence processes of inclusion and marginalisation among the students. The fieldwork will be carried out in two elementary schools in Oslo. Data will be gathered using a combination of observation, and qualitative interviews of both children and teachers, and end up in a monography.
