Abstract
This chapter discusses how gender roles and equality measures are portrayed by Knausgaard. It explores the depictions of his childhood as well as his own roles as father, husband, caregiver, and writer in light of changes in gender norms and expectations in the Nordic countries over the past 50 years. Central to these analyses are discussions and about new forms of masculinity and femininity, equality, differences between Sweden and Norway, and narratives of self and other.
